ABSTRACT

Lutfi al-Khuli was born in 1928 in the village of Abu al-Ghait in the Qalyubiyya region of the Nile Valley. 1 His family was of fellahin origin but his parents moved to Cairo when he was a year old. He spent most of his childhood in the city's al-Saiyidah Zinab district, a popular, lower middle-class Islamic section. As a child he maintained close contact with village life, visiting his grandfather's house in Abu al-Ghait from time to time.
