ABSTRACT
Andrew F. Clark is an Associate Professor of African and Global History at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. He received his PhD from Michigan State University in 1 990. He is co-author of the Historical Dictionary of Senegal (2nd edition, 1 994 ). He has published numerous articles on the history of Senegal and Mali and is currently completing a full-length manuscript on slavery and its demise in eastern Senegambia.
