ABSTRACT

As Israel celebrates its fiftieth anniversary of statehood, the question how Jewish is the Jewish State, and its educational corollary – how Jewish is the educational curriculum of the Jewish State – are asked with frequency and intensity. This in turn implies that the 'Jewishness' of the Jewish State and of its educational system are in doubt. This essay will explore the origins and nature of the 'Jewishness' of the curricula of the Israeli educational system and explain why these questions are raised.
