ABSTRACT
The following tables summarize the results ofthe 1997 General Election. The first provides details of all parties for whom votes and vote shares are reproduced here, together with the number of candidates fielded by each party. Thereafter there are figures for the number of votes received by each party, shares of the vote, mean vote share in seats contested, number of seats won and turnout. In each case data are given separately for the United Kingdom as a whole, Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales), England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
