ABSTRACT
Brian Ashton was born in 1946 in Leigh, Lancashire; his father had played Rugby League for Wigan in the 1938–39 season before the war ended his rugby career. He played Rugby League as a child, then Rugby Union for Lancaster Royal Grammar School, where he was a boarder, and Leigh Grammar School. He represented Lancashire schools at Rugby Union.
