ABSTRACT
In fomenting debate in the mid-1980s, vocal Church leaders had acted to expose evil and prod the government to amend its ways. Their main weapons were words, the pulpits from where the words reached thousands of people, and the press which carried the words even further, stirring up discourse at all levels of society and putting the politicians on the defensive.
