ABSTRACT
Over the last 20 years there has been a growing preoccupation with transnational crime. Initially, it was only the criminologists who gave it their serious attention, but in those early days the phenomenon had not acquired the gravity characterizing it in recent years. Today, public opinion, alerted by its grave and flagrant manifestations, is keenly aware of it. The media focus strongly upon it and politicians declare an intense concern about it.
