ABSTRACT
Jayant Abhyankar is the Deputy Director of the International Maritime Bureau (1MB) -a specialized division of the International Chamber of Commerce. Founded in 1981, the 1MB takes a leading role in countering maritime fraud, piracy and related problems. Abhyankar is a master mariner and holds a Master of Science degree in International Shipping from Plymouth where his thesis was on martime crime. He has been with the 1MB sice its inception and was in charge of setting up the piracy reporting centre in Kuala Lumpur.
