Our aircraft from Egypt and Malta continued during December to harass the enemy over both sea and land, squadrons from Egypt moving up as the Army cleared the way.
Early in the month the enemy High Command became alanned at the prospect of losing their hold over North Mrica. At the earnest request of Mussolini sections of the Luftwaffe were released from the Russian Front to reinforce the Mediterranean. On 2nd December 1941, Hitler! issued Directive No. 38. In view of the consequences of this directive, particularly with regard to the renewed threat to Malta's ability to serve as a naval base, it is of interest to note the wording.
