ABSTRACT
Dieter Fuchs is Professor of Political Science at the University of Stuttgart. His major research areas lie in the fields of comparative politics, the theory of democracy and political sociology. He is co-editor of Citizens and the State (1995), and he has recently contributed 'The Democratic Culture of Unified Germany', to Pippa Norris (ed.), Critical Citizens (1999) and 'Demos und Nation in der Europaischen Union', to Hans-Dieter Klingemann and FriedheIm Neidhardt (eds.), Zur ZukunJt der Demokratie (2000).
