ABSTRACT

Sport is not only a matter of competition and results, it also produces many ways of talking about sport. I On the one hand sport is a social system of its own: for those who are active in it as well as for those who are only watching it, sport includes many varieties of social behaviour. On the other hand sport is a specific area of sense-making. There is a need for a broad public to receive explanations that make rules and results understandable.
