ABSTRACT

This 'pace of change' has been caused by key macroenvironmental factors: major political change in the UK; dynamic upheaval in the former Soviet Union; globalisation of the economy; vast and unprecedented advances in technology; changes in labour markets, employment patterns and organisational structures; and significant changes in societal values. Since 1979, these macro-environmental factors have had numerous effects, not least on the interaction between the British Armed Forces (BAFs) and modern society. This chapter reports on a study undertaken to determine the attitudes of graduates to a career in the British Armed Forces.
