ABSTRACT
One of the strongest themes of writings on the Revolution in Military Affairs (RMA) is the importance of information and the ability to exploit information. Terms such as 'information dominance', 'complete situational awareness' and 'recognised ground picture' are frequently used to describe capabilities that will be delivered by new technology. These terms all express a requirement for a level of certainty that is not new. Military commanders through the ages have sought information in order to give them certainty as to the outcome of their decisions.
