ABSTRACT

Those seeking to further their understanding of international schools would do well to acquaint themselves with the research on so-called 'Third Culture Kids' and 'Global Nomads'. This recommendation is justified when one considers the number of theorists and practitioners in the field who have referred to the populations of these schools - the kinds of pupils they attract and serve - as part of their overall criteria for describing international schools. This chapter explores current opinion on the profile of these internationally mobile students, and concludes with a discussion about the response of international school educators to the recognition that this growing community of learners have unique academic and pastoral needs that should be understood by those responsible for their education.
