ABSTRACT

The International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum made its first appearance in the mid-1960s as a series of pamphlets entitled 'the International Schools Examinations Syndicate' (ISES), published under the auspices of the International Schools Association. This Association was created in the aftermath of World War II and the tragedy of Hiroshima at the time of the creation of the United Nations, on the initiative of the International School of Geneva (Ecolint), with the purpose of promoting international understanding and world peace. The ISES project was the outcome of the commitment of a small group of teachers at Ecolint to the concept of international education.
