ABSTRACT
The papers collected together in this volume first appeared in draft form at the symposium Alternative Ways of Knowing, sponsored in February 1995 by the University of Brighton's Faculty of Education. Long before the symposium took place, the editors of this book - Dave Baker, John Clay and Carol Fox - had been working together on the issues raised by the literacies and numeracies of their disciplines in teacher education: Mathematics, Science, and English respectively.
