ABSTRACT

We were able to follow longitudinally twenty-four of the students as they went from junior high through high school. The racial composition and the gender count of the twenty-four students was: Mexican: nine (four male, five female); white: eight (five male, three female); Black: two (one male, one female); Puerto Rican: two (female); Native American: one (male); Southeast Asian: one (female); Arab-American: one (female). During these four follow-up years, two of the three original researchers periodically visited the high school and interviewed the students, as well as Anthony. Phone calls were also made to Anthony in order to keep up with the students' actions. Interview data were recorded and transcribed for analysis.
