ABSTRACT

In this chapter, several standardized spiritual assessment instruments will be examined. We will also study several developmental models of spiritual growth from a spiritual assessment viewpoint, and learn how to do a spiritual assessment by conducting a semi-structured interview while using a survey instrument. From Chapter 3 we are familiar with what we termed an “informal” process of spiritual assessment, that is, an assessment done without an assessment survey or a developed instrument. In informal assessment, we get to know the helpee better from a spiritual perspective through conversation. However, presently many helping professionals and their organizations are looking for a more formal spiritual assessment tool. They desire to use already-developed instruments or to draw up new survey assessment tools for their particular settings.
