A s with other tourists, the visitors who disembark from cruiseships mostly visit the Valdés Península, Punta Tombo, and Punta Loma. The Valdés Peninsula is also an important destination for the area's resident population, not only from Puerto Madryn but also from the nearby cities of Rawson and Trelew. The number of people who visited the Valdes Peninsula in 1998-residents plus tourists, excluding all those younger than 12-reached 164,269.
