ABSTRACT

With the Russian liberation of Lwów, we were freed from Nazi terror, although the war continued to rage in other parts of Poland. The task ahead was to find housing, work, and to try to put the pieces of our fragmented lives back together. The Donats, a couple who lived on a large street in the center of town, offered us lodging in their apartment building. Mr. Donat was an acquaintance who had worked with my father before the war. It was good to realize that there were still people around who did not shy away from us, the wretched Jews, who crawled out of hiding with nothing to call our own.
