ABSTRACT

My healing journey out of the Holocaust was a long one. It began slowly and gained momentum over the years. My goal was to get to a place where I would feel a sense of integration and continuity in my life and, ultimately, to experience a greater freedom from the inhibitions that had been the legacy of my hidden childhood. Many different roads led me to that place. The major one was my personal analysis. When I first began reconstructing my past, Sabe was my invaluable guide along the way. His empathy and understanding created the safe atmosphere that enabled me to put the fragmented pieces of my early childhood into a coherent whole. With memory images, occasional dreams, and bits of information gleaned over the years, we reconstructed the events of my past. Creating a coherent narrative is a healing experience for any trauma survivor. In my case it was especially important and especially difficult.
