ABSTRACT

My own understanding of educational at-risk suggests the singular or combined characteristics o f various ecological environments, in their totality, in which pupils hold a significant or, above odds, probability o f failure o f realising their potential. Risk factors, then, are variables that decrease the probability of scholarly success for a pupil. Pupils are placed at-risk when they experience a significant mismatch between their circumstances and needs and the capacity or willingness of the school to accept, accommodate, and respond to them in a manner that supports and enables their maximum social, emotional, and intellectual growth and development.
