ABSTRACT

This book will illustrate how six post-industrial nations (Canada, The Federal Republic of Germany, Israel, The Netherlands, The United Kingdom, and The United States) have met, or failed to meet, this challenge, what they have done, or need to do, in the near future in order to promote the practice of democratic living and citizenship for the people in their midst-newcomers and hosts alike. Each of the six countries-as Hoskin's next chapter relates-is experiencing a large influx of new populations, some permanent immigrants, others guest workers, refugees, or nationals of former colonial holdings.
