ABSTRACT
There is something about the terms "change" and "innovation" that produces a feeling of discomfort in me or at least a sense of inappropriateness. This feeling on my part is not a result of a complacency about the present effectiveness or quality of education in the United States, for I have been reasonably dissatisfied with most public education as long as I have been a professional within the field of education. This feeling is p.ot a result of hostility toward present change agents within the American educational scene, for I recognize that the quality of education within the schools is the responsibility of all members of our society, not just old-line professional educators.
