ABSTRACT

Hopefully, as this part has cultivated skills to analyze the variety of discourses examined, it has also developed and empowered readers as informed interpreters. It has analyzed the characteristics of context and language of five different kinds of discourse to determine the features of appropriateness of each genre and grammaticality of each register. Readers should have developed a sounder understanding of the diagram (shown again here) linking process to product and acceptability to appropriateness and grammaticality. It is easier to understand why it is that some texts seem more acceptable than others do within a particular kind of discourse. https://s3-euw1-ap-pe-df-pch-content-public-p.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/9780203053720/0dd820e5-0caf-4c84-9f05-dea5b5d62ecd/content/figu3_B.tif" xmlns:xlink="https://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"/>
