Networks The Familia: Cohesion and Conflict book
The Movement generation owes its cultural strength to its dense networks. These networks originated primarily in the 1960's and early 1970's when Chicanos first entered California universities and colleges in large numbers. This network community is to a degree typical of ethnic, class, or mutual interest networking groups where key relationships are created through college friendships and associations [Ehrenreich 1989:13-14]. However, it's density and cohesiveness are unique, the product of a vital Chicano student Movement culture transformed by its creators into the professional context.
