ABSTRACT

By the spring of 1965, the foundation had been laid for spearheading the first Asian American theatre company in Los Angeles. Firm in their purpose and with a strong commitment, the EWP became a reality with the meshing of disparate factors. The drastically changing landscape of American theatre—with the revival of ethnic theatre in America, the growth of regional theatre companies, and the social political climate of the nation—provided a space for a new and unique force amalgamated in the EWP.
