ABSTRACT

When, in 1982, Charles Pierce performed at the Plush Room at the Hotel York on Sutter Street in San Francisco, he immediately christened the establishment “The Tush Room at the Hotel Yuck.” Actually, he loved the room at first sight, and it became his favorite venue—his home away from home. He always occupied a suite in the hotel on the sixth floor when he had an engagement there. Long before the building housed the Hotel York, it was known as the Empire Hotel, and it became famous when film director Alfred Hitchcock used the hotel as a location for Kim Novak’s character in Vertigo.
