“Moving Toward” and Resistance

In this chapter, I want to begin look at the resistance that Freud called repression and—insofar as possible—to see it in operation. Seth and Will were among the first people with whom I spoke about the issues in this book. It was in my dialogues with them that I first saw the dynamic “moving toward” of men’s same-sex feeling and the operation of the dynamic resistance that blocked it from progressing further.
