ABSTRACT

The resurgence of Islamitic forces invigorates the idea of masculinity and the archaic structure of sexuality. The ruling class combines a legitimizing traditionalism with a proclaimed modernism in order to divert the revolutionary energy of the common people to an apathetic passivity or a primitive hedonism. Today everywhere in Morocco personal prestige and power are revered. Men seem to be entrapped by an excessive adoration of virility, identification with the father, hero worship, a cult of force and domination, contempt of everything weak, and disdain and fear of women.
