ABSTRACT

The interests of the artist and the masses correspond fundamentally and positively. The culture and merits of the artist vis-a-vis the masses must be measured not by his works that are highly cultured but also intelligible to the masses, but by the works through which he has helped to raise

the cultural level of the masses. Every film must be useful, intelligible and familiar to the millions - otherwise neither it nor the artist who made it are worth twopence.
