ABSTRACT
Archaeofaunal remains may provide clues as to what kind of environment existed in the past. The basic assumption is that an animal’s present-day dietary and climatic preferences were the same in prehistory. Animal remains may indicate whether the environment was forested or open grassland; whether it was hot or cold, whether the seashore was nearby or not, and even how sanitary conditions were.
