ABSTRACT
Written language is a very ingenious system. Using only 26 letters of the alphabet, we can create an almost infinite number of words simply by combining and recombining those letters in a variety of different patterns. If words were just visual patterns without any underlying system, we would have to remember thousands and thousands of different word patterns by rote.
