ABSTRACT

Rehearsed reading (sometimes called repeated reading) has been shown to help promote good reading skills. Reading is all about word recognition, which in turn depends to a large extent on familiarity. The more frequently a word is seen, the more likely it is that the pupil will remember it. This is especially true if the word is interesting and meaningful. Look how young, pre-school children learn to recognise their own names, often well before they are able to read any other words.
