PHONETIC ALPHABET AND PHONETIC ORTHOGRAPHY 11 has been adopted for the reformed orthographies of those languages in which decisions have been reached, and for the rest, the suggestions of the Memorandum have been followed.1 For those readers who are familiar with the LP.A., the symbols of this system are given as footnotes where they differ from the recommendations of the Memorandum.
