ABSTRACT

While their country does not share the enthusiasm for cricket shoxun in the Asian and Carribean Commonwealth countries, Nigerians are devoted to sport, notably soccer and boxing. Every state wants a major stadium in its capital, and the President and the Governors are expected to be present at major sporting events. The “minority sports” — tennis, golf, horse-racing, even polo, as well as athletics —also have big followings and Nigeria stages international tournaments.
