ABSTRACT

People go to university for many reasons, not all of which are to do with academic success. However, most wish to do well – that is, to get a good degree – and most hope that they will get an acceptable job with their good degree. Since it is they who are assessed, perhaps they should be asked how it is to be done. They may answer that this is for employers and academics to decide, or go to the other extreme and say that they would prefer not to be assessed. Whatever, the mood of the times is such that the stakeholders should be asked.
