ABSTRACT

It is common practice for student teachers to observe what happens in experienced teachers’ classrooms. For that observation to be useful it needs to have a clear purpose and be conducted in a way that is appropriate for that purpose. There are different kinds of observation which can be useful and you can help guide your student teachers in understanding and appreciating what each can offer them. Focused and purposeful observation can be very fruitful Unfocused observation, without a clear purpose, is generally demoralizing and counter-productive.
