ABSTRACT

The initial design and development phase of learning materials for use in a Web-based learning environment is, for the most part, no different to the design and development of materials for use in any other learning environment. Typically when you start any Web-based learning materials development project you are going to have to ask yourself and others a lot of questions to help you determine the focus, priorities and guidelines for your learning materials. Once that is done you then have to determine the actual details of the materials themselves. This is the analysis portion of your work and covers the first three steps in the design and development process of Web-based learning materials. Once you have asked all the relevant questions and, at least for the moment, received what you hope are 'good' answers, then you have to put together a skills profile of the competencies learners must exhibit when they have successfully completed the learning event.
