ABSTRACT

The sea is full of fish of all colours, shapes and sizes and the largest of all are the sharks. Children will be fascinated by the mysterious world under the sea, in awe of its beauty and fearful of its strangeness. In the surface layer of the ocean, creatures like squid, basking sharks and seahorses feed on tiny plants and animals called plankton. In the middle layer of the ocean the fish feed on other fish. Some examples of these are the oarfish, which is long and thin; sometimes five times longer than a person. Its top fin looks like a ribbon and it has no tall. Hatchetfish on the other hand are shorter than an adult's hand and very flat.
