ABSTRACT

This first empirical chapter is concerned with the MAC system at Bancroft University. It examines how, following the implementation of the system, the organisation and the technology at Bancroft were shaped and reshaped together in what was – as we have indicated in Chapters 1 and 2 – a very messy process of techno-organisational change. This process involved taking a generic, delocalised, sector-wide system and then localising it within a particular setting. It also involved struggles among different organisational groupings over the control and direction of change.
