ABSTRACT
The term Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD) is generally used by teachers to refer to severe problems in reading but this is not the only group included in this term. Reading difficulties do however predominate and of course are a major concern. The characteristic profile is of a pupil who has low or very low attainments in the presence of apparent higher ability or potential. There is usually an uneven profile of success and failure in school attainments.
