ABSTRACT
The liberalisation of trade on a European and global level has exposed the inadequacies of existing infrastructure arrangements. The increased economic interactions fostered by freer trade have increased the interdependence between networks which has highlighted the push for their integration. This integration is born of the desire of enterprises to have uniform functionality across space, requiring networks that are interconnected, interoperable and foster broad access to assorted socio-economic groupings.
