ABSTRACT

ISDN as a TEN is based upon utilising existing technology to ensure the delivery of more advanced services over what is essentially a narrowband network. The longer term objective of many states is more clearly focused upon the wide-spread provision of the ‘information superhighway’. To many this highway is represented by the delivery of advanced multi-media services over an Integrated Broadband Communications (IBC) infrastructure. The ‘integrated’ aspect of IBC is a reference not only to the integration of services highlighted within ISDN but also to the interoperability and interconnection of a conglomeration of networks.
