ABSTRACT
Increasingly, the assessment of children is set within a framework determined by factors outside the immediate control of classroom teachers. What is taught and how it is assessed is heavily influenced by the requirements of external tests or examinations such as the Standard Assessment Tasks (SATs) and GCSE examinations.
