ABSTRACT
This chapter concentrates particularly on the development of reading skills for those pupils who have this difficulty. Firstly, some background information is provided on the National Literacy Strategy which has been recently introduced in England. Some help is also given to aid staff in identifying weak readers. The four basic developmental stages of reading are outlined and issues raised regarding the adaptation and differentiation of teaching materials. Some strategies are outlined relating to pupils with dyslexia.
