ABSTRACT

The research question has been formulated, the texts are read for now, and all the pitfalls have been considered. The critical question now becomes, ‘What action(s) can I take to gather evidence to answer the research question?’, for you will remember that only data which does that job can be used. Gathering other information which is fascinating and might come in handy in another investigation can be sorely tempting, but if it is extraneous to the main thrust of the enquiry, it only serves to confuse the main issue and is best forgotten.
