ABSTRACT

The premise of this book is that emotional and behavioural difficulties are to do with pupils who are so badly hurt and in so much pain that they are angry. It is our belief that they express their anger in a place that is safe: to that extent, expression of anger in school could be seen as positive. This pain might be brought in from home or it might be caused by or at school. It seems to us that the reason why dealing with this angry behaviour is so difficult for teachers is because they too feel the pupil’s pain. In effect then, emotional and behavioural difficulties are to do with children who are hurting but don’t know what to do with that pain.
