ABSTRACT
The most common explanation given to children usually involves telling the tale of Odysseus who chose Mentor, a 'true and trusted' friend, to act as a guide and adviser to his son when he went off to fight wars. To use this as a definition of mentoring however, both undervalues and underestimates the contribution that mentors make to learning by young people.
