ABSTRACT

The tale of open form has been told many many times in many ways, a few of which were treated at length in chapters VI and VII. For once let’s have the composer tell the story as he saw it at the time. The following remarks have been taken from Earle Brown’s contribution to the form number of the Darmstädter Beiträge zur neuen Musik (1966) as well as from the introduction of the Associated Music Publishers score (“score” written after quotations) of Available Forms I.
